Transformers, switchgear and cables for Saudi Arabia

A procurement guide for contractors, industrial plants and developers with 60 Hz project requirements.

Saudi Arabia's grid runs at 60 Hz. Distribution equipment for the national utility is bought to the utility's own specifications from registered vendors; contractors, industrial plants and developers also buy directly for private networks.

Market research for project planning. Public procurement figures and buyer references on this page are not Trafovia sales, customer relationships or completed projects. Availability and compliance are confirmed for the proposed manufacturer and order.

Import conformity

  • Imported products are certified on the SABER platform: a Product Certificate of Conformity (PCoC) per model, valid one year, and a Shipment Certificate of Conformity (SCoC) for each shipment.
  • The Gulf technical regulation for low-voltage electrical equipment (BD-142004-01) covers equipment rated 50 to 1,000 V AC. Whether a medium-voltage transformer or switchboard falls under it, or under another regulation, is confirmed with the conformity assessment body for the product.
  • Technical files typically include ISO 9001, test reports from accredited laboratories, product photographs and labelling, and an Arabic user manual.

FAQ

Saudi Arabia market guide: questions buyers ask

How should a 60 Hz requirement be specified?

Include system voltage, frequency, loading and service conditions in the specification. Confirm 60 Hz suitability and supporting evidence for the proposed model with its manufacturer.

How should utility vendor eligibility be checked?

Supplying the national utility directly requires vendor registration. Check the tender rules and current registration of the named bidder and manufacturer; this guide does not establish Trafovia or any proposed partner as an approved utility vendor.
